Chris Hart

PE6 Reflection
I feel satisfied about my progress in doing what I planned in my goal statement. Here are the specific evaluations:
1) Learn how to use in speech any new vocabulary appearing in my Blog entries
I have not yet written a text-based Blog post since PE1, so the first item doesn't apply yet. However, I have been learning new Japanese vocabulary and their usage from dramas, cartoons and films. Surely, I will have written Blog assignments before the end of the semester, and I will do as item 1 dictates for each Blog post I write.
2) Learn at least 3 Japanese songs
So far this semester, I have learned 「碧い瞳のエリス」by 安全地帯 (PE3) as well as 「最愛」by 柏原芳恵 (PE5)。I will definitely have learned three songs by the end of the semester, probably more. To be honest, I'm not sure how much I'm actually improving my speech by singing, but I enjoy doing it and I feel like I'm learning new vocabulary as well as new ways to use known vocabulary in the process.
3) Shadow 15 minutes a week outside of PE
This was easier to do near the beginning of the semester. I generally shadow a show I'm watching for 15 minutes on a Saturday or Sunday. During the midterm period, I didn't accomplish my weekly quota, but I have continued my shadowing routine since.
For the rest of the semester, I will keep following items 1 through 3. I will so also go to either language table or office hour at least once a week.

PE1
I don't know if I will continue with Japanese after this semester. It was my unequivocally favorite class last semester and probably will be again this semester, but for practical reasons I don't see myself going to an elective five days a week for the rest of my time at Princeton.
Due to this uncertainty, I want to spend the current semester in Japanese class in a way that will leave me no regrets should it be my last. A frustration I've had intermittently since September was not being able to express my feelings properly both in speech and in writing. I want to convey my true thoughts, not simplified or abridged versions due to linguistic incompetence. Although that will not happen within five months, it will be my ideal to work toward this semester.
To achieve my goal, I will do the following:
1) Learn how to use in speech any new vocabulary appearing in my Blog entries
2) Learn at least 3 Japanese songs
3) Shadow 15 minutes a week outside of PE

Watch 10:39 to 13:25 and you'll understand why I won't be able to let myself eat Japanese food until I forget Setsuko.
